Accessibility

Bradford Theatres and Bradford Council are committed to ensuring all customers can participate and enjoy Bradford Theatres events equally. For customers who need someone to be with them to access the service or facility at Bradford Theatres, there is an Access & Carer Membership Scheme in operation. Membership is free - click here for more information.

Bradford Theatres have been a White Rose Tourism nominee in the 'Access For All' category.

At Bradford Theatres we aim to make our venues fully accessible, and we offer an extensive range of access facilities to ensure an easy and enjoyable experience for all our customers.

Bradford Theatres have been assessed and accredited by DisabledGo.

Wheelchair Access

There are 6 wheelchair spaces at the Alhambra Theatre. The accessible entrance is via Great Horton Road. Unfortunately, due to the layout of our wheelchair accessible spaces, we are not able to accommodate scooters and other vehicles designed for outdoor use. Please let us know your requirements at the time of booking. Wheelchair accessible toilets are available.

Access Assisted Performances

There are sign language interpreted performances, audio described performances and captioned performances at stated shows. Pre-show notes are available to accompany signed and captioned shows. Please ask the Box Office when booking your tickets.

Hearing enhancement
The auditorium at the Alhambra Theatre is equipped with infra-red audio system. This enables patrons to independently control the level of volume required wherever they sit in the auditorium.

Headsets are available on request.

Captioned performances
We offer captioned performances for some shows. Captioning is similar to television subtitling and gives deaf, deafened or hard of hearing people access to live performance. The actors' words appear on display units at each side of the stage at the same time as they are spoken or sung. A qualified captioner operates the captions as the action happens on stage so it can be read by hard of hearing attenders at the same time as the actors are saying the words on stage.

Sign language interpreted performances
We offer sign language interpreted performances for some shows. A signed performance is the usual full production with the addition of a Sign Language Interpreter who stands on or near the stage interpreting the show for deaf attenders.

Audio described performances
We offer audio description for some shows. Audio Described performances are designed to improve the experience of visually impaired and blind attenders. As well as listening to the dialogue on stage the visually impaired customer wears a headset and listens to a live description of the action on stage. The description only happens in between dialogue and supplements the voices of the performers in explaining the emotions and action of each scene. Touch Tours are available to support audio described performances – please ask for more information when booking your tickets.

Search by access performance type on our What's On page to see a list of access assisted performances that are currently available.

Assistance dogs are welcome at our venues.

Family Friendly
The accessible entrance is to the main foyer at the Alhambra Theatre (including kiosk, box office, toilets and cloakroom) and theatre stalls level (including the bar) from Great Horton Road. There are baby-changing facilities also on this level.

We don't recommend that you bring children under the age of two to family shows. "Babes in Arms" tickets may be available at some shows but cannot be booked online. Please call the Box Office on 01274 432000 for further information/to book if available.

Our printed brochures are available in large print, Braille and on audio CD. Programmes for some shows can be made available in large print, Braille and on audio CD but you will need to ask us for them at least two weeks before the performance you want to come to.
